Coro Amante and L’Esperance Mandolin Ensemble join forces for a unique performance of Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, John Rutter’s Traditional English Songs and Steven Antonelli’s Carol of the Bells. Britten’s Ceremony of Carols is a contemporary exploration of ancient and Medieval carols with exotic modern harmonies set against haunting traditional melodies. John Rutter’s Traditional English Songs sets five favorite English folk songs with lively interplay between the choral lines and the orchestral voices. Steven Antonelli’s Carol of the Bells is an exhilarating fresh take on an ancient Ukrainian Christmas carol. L’Esperance rounds out the program with a selection of seasonal melodies.
Coro Amante is a newly formed Rhode Island based chorus featuring leading local voices. Led by our assistant conductor, Joseph Amante, Coro Amante has joined L’Esperance several times over the past few years.
St. Peter’s by the Sea is one of Rhode Island’s premier music venue. This beautiful church, built in 1873, features Tiffany stained glass windows, and most important, pristine acoustic sounds.
